A Challenge to Myself: Facebook Fasting

I told myself to read at least one book a month for 2016 but it's already February and I haven't finished a book yet. I noticed I've been giving so much time using Facebook. If I am not posting my random thoughts and things on my facebook wall, I see myself scrolling down my news feed, watching those funny vines and video clips, reading what's going on with other people's lives, reading gossips, lies and wrong information. I understand that facebook is a good communication and social media marketing tool, but I have spent so much time on facebook doing nothing particularly important. I want to be able to read more books, post- process more photographs, study and practice my photography and video editing skills, update my blogs and work without any disruption.

So, I have decided to deactivate my Facebook account temporarily if not permanently. I want it deactivated for a month or maybe a week, the least. No! I want it deactivated for at least a month. Maybe by then, I would have used my facebook time to a lot of more important things.

This first couple of days that my facebook was deactivated was a struggle. From time to time all I can think of is logging in and posting a new photo or status. Sometimes, I just want to post a song that has been on my mind or a song I am listening to on Spotify. I wanted to post that I have updated my photo blog. I am just so grateful that I am still surviving. I am able to update my blog, currently reading a book by Paulo Coehlo and will soon have a fun photoshoot with a friend. I am excited.

When Your Ex Ask Forgiveness

What if an ex who cheated on you, blocked you on Facebook, and haven’t communicated with for quite some time, like out of nowhere suddenly appeared and asked for forgiveness?

I posted this exact question on my facebook account and got diverse answers from my friends.  The truth is, I already answered this question myself but I wanted to know what other people would do if this kind of situation will happen to them. How would some of my friends react?

About a couple of weeks ago, I checked on my facebook messages and found I have this message in my ‘Other’ inbox (since only messages from my Facebook friends will go through my main inbox). This particular guy in my past apparently created another Facebook account and sent me a private message. He said he wanted to talk and that he was sorry.

His account was new. He just had about 30 friends in his list and had no profile picture yet. I tried to scan his account and tried to check if his old account still exists. I didn’t really know yet, if I should ignore him or reply to his message.

I wanted to post the above question in my facebook timeline at that time to see if what other people think but I opted not to because that time I also realized I didn’t want my decision to be affected by other people’s opinion. I wanted to know how I feel deep inside if I was indeed ready to forgive. It was funny though because I also searched the internet for some explanation why an ex would suddenly pop up and apologize. Google led me to some online forums and most of the answers said it’s because of their guilt. I asked a friend what she thinks I should do and she was quick to tell me to ignore him.

Still, I decided to reply to his message with just a question mark “?” and it would be up to him how he would understand that. That time I was in doubt. A big part of me felt that it’s time to forgive but a part of me don't want to.  A few days later he replied and so we had the conversation.

I didn’t ask him why he played on me but I asked him why he suddenly realized to get in touch with me and asked for forgiveness. He told me how he was sincere with his apology, how he had to gather all his guts just to apologize knowing he had done something that could be unforgivable. He is no longer with the girl he cheated on me with. He said his life has been a mess since he played on me and that he has been paying the price of what he did.

I accepted his apology. He said his burdens have lighted now that we are OK and both moving on. I chose to forgive him because I also wanted to lighten my load. And I really appreciated his big move and his huge guts to apologize and admit he did wrong.

How to Report Spam Facebook Messages

If you noticed there is this new spam message in facebook. You will recieve random private message from random facebook friends telling you they saw you in a video.

My hints that the video is not real? First, it has my profile picture, not so random at all.  Second, I dont just post random videos of myself and third I am very much aware that facebook is also media for desperate advertisers, virus/spam creators and of course hackers.

First thing that everybody needs to do is to be more vigilant. Remember to think before you click. Be very careful in clicking links, if your instinct says that it is malicious then it most likely is.  Always check the URL or the link, hackers are creating fake facebook page, games or apps for you to log in so they can get a hold of your account. Also use a unique password and if you have been a victim of hacking immediately change your password.

Ive been receiving these kind of spam messages and every time I receive one I immediately report it.

Please don't click the link. If you click it, it will also send spam messages to your facebook friends, i believe it sends spam messages to those that are currently online.

Here is how to report a spam message.

1. Click the message icon at the upper right hand corner of your facebook page. That is between the Friend Request icon and the Notifications icon. Click "See All".
2. Now that you are in your inbox, go to the specific conversation with the spam message.
3. Click the Actions button and select Report Spam or Abuse.

4. On the Report Spam or Abuse pop up, select the option that says "Report individual message from a hacked friend as spam and delete them" and then click ok.
5.  select the message and then click Mark Spam button

6. On the Report This Message as Spam pop up, click the Report Spam Message button.

Robbery in the Jeep

That feeling when the person seated beside you in the jeep got robbed...

It was scary and shocking. I’ve never witnessed anything like that before... 4 guys took the jeep by pair as if they were just regular commuters. Then this 1 guy pointed an ice pick to this nursing student seated beside me, forcibly taking her mobile phone. The girl was struggling to keep the phone, I was shock at what happened, and they even hit me while struggling for the phone. The robber was like, telling the girl to just give the phone in a hurry because there is a police.

I wanted to yell at the robber and tell him to leave the girl alone. But I was in shock and some people told her to just give the phone. The 4 of them got off, 2 ran away but the other 2 rode the jeep again, seated beside me. I saw his face scrambling where to run. I wanted to get my phone and take a picture of him so I can report him, but the other 2 are still in the jeep.

Good thing the police somehow detected it, and the commuters told the police that robbers were running away, wearing pink shirt. Their patrol car went on a U turn and hurried to catch the robbers...

We got off before from our destination. Then we saw the patrol car, with the robber wearing pink inside it. We are guessing the police are following the jeep we were in because they are trying to catch the other two.

This happened near Mango Avenue, Cebu at around 2 in the afternoon.. We were in a 17C jeep..

Im still shaking right now...

Deception Point; I Too Got Decieved

Being able to read the Da Vinci Code and the Angels and Demons, I got excited when I got the Deception Point for only 50php. I’ve been wanting to get a hold of this book for ages already.

Flipping through the chapters of the book, I thought to myself this book is boring, everything seemed obvious, I could leave this book unfinished and know who the real antagonist is. But then, this is Dan Brown, there must be a real good twist somewhere.

I’ve been telling my bookworm friend about my hunches about who the real antagonist or who is behind the deception.  She would just smile and promised not to be a spoiler.  And because I work at home after my shift, I can only or mostly read the book at the office while I have no customer or on avail as we call it.

Anyway, so today since it’s my rest day, I decided to finish this book since I’m more than half way. I woke up and the first thing I got a hold of is this book.

I got so carried away. I thought the antagonist is already obvious, it was already spoon-fed. It took my breath away, when I found out who’s really behind the deception.  I was like, what the hell?!... So that’s why Certifyd Maldita has been giving me that sly smile, every time I tell her who my hunches are.

breathtaking thriller with a hint of romance and comedy

Yolanda Aftermath in Baybay City, Leyte

Baybay was real dark when we arrived. It felt like a ghost town, nothing can be seen from the ship that was docking to the port.

I and my sisters from Luzon have been so worried with the situation of our family in Leyte, specially my brother and his family in Palo, Leyte. When I arrived home, I was so thankful that though its dark, it least my family in Baybay is intact. We are just worried now with my brother's situation in Palo.

When morning came, I went to visit some of my friend's family and families of my sister's friends to check, since the have been also worried because of the lost of telecommunications. Its a good thing, that although, Baybay is devastated by the typhoon, there is no reported casualties and the people are safe. The only problem there is the limited supply of the basic needs.

Almost all of the utility poles are down. As reported It may Take 2-6 months of no power supply in Leyte.

right after the typhoon it wasn't passable here because a huge tree was uprooted and blocked the road

The beauty of Visayas State University was also destroyed. Trees were uprooted, blocking the roads and the landscape was destroyed.

Mount Pangasugan became bald.

Its a good thing though that slowly the telecommunication signals are being restored. Smart and Sun network are restored in selected areas.. People are going to VSU  beach, at the Baybay park infront of the Catholic church near the City Hall and Legislative Building to text and call their loved ones to inform them their situation.

searching for network in Baybay Plaza so they can text their loved ones
at the side of legislative building people are also texting and calling their loved ones

It is good to know that there are no casualties reported in Baybay and it is going back to its feet. Baybay is doing its best to recover as soon as possible, though supplies for basic needs are still scarce. Hopefully soon enough everything will be back as it was.

business as usual

My brother and his family (wife and 2 kids, 6 and 3-year olds) is residing in Palo, Leyte and we were very worried because we had no communication and the roads were not passable. Thank God they are safe, my brother said they took shelter under their bed to protect themselves from falling debris or blown off roof.
When the road was finally passable, they traveled from Tacloban to Baybay to evacuate. The roads really does smell, epecially in Tanauan, Leyte. Corpses are just on the roads and it smell bad already. I saw the pictures and video clips from his phone, and it was really heartbreaking. I cant imagine what my brother and his family went through during the typhoon. But still, thank God they are safe. My thoughts and prayer goes to all of the victims of the typhoon.
