I Eat Shrimp Shell Because It's Healthy

My friends and I went to visit a friend to help me with my new laptop. His family happened to own a shrimp farm, so for dinner, his mom served us shrimp together with other delicious foods and fresh fruit and juices.

While eating he noticed i also ate the shell of the shrimps. Yes, I eat the shell of shrimp and it depends on how it is prepared that sometimes I would peel it. Im used to eating the shells, my dad told me its a source of calcium. So I reasoned that its a source of calcium and its definitely right to eat it. They laughed at me telling me that, it should be peeled and that there is no nutrients that i would consume from eating the shells. The four of them already has mountain of shells in their plate while in my plate are just the heads and the tail. I insisted its a source of calcium but they insisted its a source of nothing.

So at home i made a research about the benefits of consuming the shells of the shrimp and here is what i found out: Shrimp shells or the exoskeleton is a source of Chitin. Chitin is composed of Chitosan and Glucosamine.

Eating shrimp shells helps you lose weight since Chitosan blocks the absorption of fats in the body. It makes you feel full and so you wont be able to eat much. Chitosan also helps to lower bad cholesterol in the body thus lowering the risk of stroke, heart attack, diabetes and other similar illness due to weight gain. It is a natural fiber and it helps detoxify the body especially the liver. It also helps relieve lactose intolerance and ulcers as Chitosan also has antacid properties. Consuming shrimp shells is also good for the joints because of its Glucosamine content.

Chitin is non-allergenic, those allergic to shellfishes are allergic to the meat and not the shell.  I have only mentioned a few benefits from eating the shrimp of the shells, I know there is still a lot more. Therefore, eating shrimp shells is indeed beneficial and definitely not useless. Throwing away the shell is throwing away a very healthy part of the shrimp.

Oh, maybe I was wrong about the shrimp shell as source of calcium but at least I wasnt wrong about eating it. lol

Super Bass

I just want to share a video of me and my friends from our Sibugay Mountain Resort trip.
Recently I got inspired to practice editing videos with Sony Vegas. We were introduced with this software in college for our Video Production Class, but it has been a while and I almost forgot the basics.

Hope you enjoy. I added lyrics too so everyone can sing along.

P.S.
Sibugay Mountain Resort is a fresh water resort in Albuera, Leyte, Philippines..

There is no Summer in the Philippines

It's the time of the year when a lot of people (Filipinos) are talking about summer or summer vacation.

I remember when I was young, I never say summer when it's March or April I just say it's "vacation" time from school because as far as I knew it's the hot or dry season and students are given a free time and people spend their vacation. I never learned that there is summer in the Philippines but I've always known that there is summer in America. I know the fact that there is only 2 seasons in the Philippines as mentioned in my "Sibika at Kultura" subject.

When I was 9, I started to hear people referring the dry season as summer. I mostly heard it from the people on tv. Then, some of my classmates started to use the term summer. So I thought that maybe the term summer refers to the "sunny" season or it's the sophisticated term of the hot season. I also thought that maybe summer vacation is the general term to use when students are given a break from school during the hot season.

One day, An MTV VJ got confused when a caller from the Philippines, mentioned that its summer in the Philippines because she is pretty much aware that there are only 2 seasons in the Philippines. I dont remember that VJ but that made me realize that yeah there really is no summer in the Philippines and these people saying that it's already summer are actually confusing foreigners or even the Filipinos themselves or even themselves at all.

I somehow get irritated when I hear people from the media, mention that it's summer time already.  I hate it when I hear it from popular newscaster and other celebrities because they are confusing a lot of people.

If you must know, the Philippines is located near the equator and experience only 2 seasons, the Wet and Dry season but the Dry Season can also be sub divided as the cool dry season from December to February and the Hot Dry Season from March to May. This has been discussed in our Sibika at Kultura, HeKaSi or Geography subject.

Yes, summer is the warmest season in other countries or other parts of the world but technically Philippines doesn't have summer.

I know there's a lot of Pinoys out there who gets confused when discussing summer with people from other countries. But now, dont get confused and dont be ignorant there is no summer in the Philippines.

Trying Out my New Japanese Foam Curlers

I wasnt really busy today so I thought of trying out the Japanese Curlers I bought online.

My hair was still wet when I put the curlers on and I cant find our hair blower/dryer. Plus I used conditioner when I showered this morning as I did not plan to curl my hair today.
My hair was still wet when I took off the curlers, so the result is not really pretty obvious. I also did not use any curling mousse or anything that can hold the curls. But just to see the result, here it is.
Sory for the picture quality it was taken with my laptop's cam.  Ill take better shots when I finally master to do it. And next time I will try to use my Magic Leverag. Anyway, Can anybody of you recommend a curling mousse or anything that can hold the curls. Im new to DIY curling, so Im not sure what products to use.

here is a picture of the foam curlers I used

I Hate that Google Ended the Service of GFC

I have been wondering why my Google Friend Connect widget is not working anymore while I see it is still working with other blogs. I tried to search online and found out that Google Friend Connect has stopped working with blogs from other platforms and they have announced it that GFC will no longer work except for those in blogger or blogspot.

But why isnt it working in mine?

Today I decided to check my GFC account thinking that there must be something wrong with the code since I tried to connect my GFC account with my other blog once.  I found out today GFC has stopped their service since the 1st of March, 2012.

I really really hate that they have to do that. I think just because they want us to use Google+.

I havent created a page for google+ yet. So to all my friends in Google Friend Connect, I still have my FB so lets just follow each other in Facebook. Lets communicate in my page. Share your thoughts or even your blog, your links that I can follow you too..

Lactum 1-3 or Nido Junior?

So I have been searching for the best but affordable milk I could give my baby. I have been mix feeding Sofie when she was already 6th month old. Ive given her different kinds of milk already, and its a good thing she is not picky and so is her stomach. I actually settled for Lactum 1-3, since its the milk of my niece when she was a year old and I believe she gained weight with Lactum 1-3. I even got bummed out when my sister bought a big can of Nido Junior instead of Lactum 1-3 for my baby just because her officemate's neice is chubby, cute and adorable.

Anyway, I finally got discontented with Lactum 1-3 as it seems to me that Sofie isn't gaining weight and because of that I feel that Sofie isn't getting the nutrition she needs. This probably has less to do with gaining weight, but I still want to see Sofie looking healthy and cute. lol

So from my (informal) "research", I learned that more and more mothers are switching to Nido Junior. I don't really know the reason, but there has been a lot of positive feedback with it. I've been giving Sofie Nido Junior for a month now, and she is doing well with it.

I always check the ingredients of the products I buy or in this case for milk I check its nutrient value. Tonight, since I'm left here without any work to do, I decided to compare the Nutrient value of both milk, since I still have the box of Lactum 1-3 and Nido Junior.

This table shows the nutrient value per 100g powder.

Judging from the table I have made, it seems that Lactum is a better choice, but there are still other nutrients that are just in Nido Junior and some of of its nutrients has much more value than Lactum 1-3. Anyway, Im not good at this so you be the judge (or maybe let the nutritionist or your pediatrician be the judge.. lol).

Mom's out there which do you think is better? Lactum 1-3 or Nido Junior?

Cheap and Easy Way to Lighten Underarms

The hot season is coming and some girls are already preparing there sexy swimsuit while others are still worrying about dark underarms.

Many men and women suffer from discoloration of the armpit. The common causes are:
  • Shaving
  • Friction
  • Bad product applied to the armpit
  • Skin pigmentation due to inflammation or other medical condition
  • Pregnancy
Now, here is my simple and cheap regimen to lighten underarms. Trust me, I wasn’t gifted with a clear armpit. I started shaving at an early age. I used the wrong deodorant that my father had to tell me to stop using it since he noticed it stained my clothes. That deo was the main reason for the discoloration of my armpit, it irritated my skin and because of that I avoided wearing sleeveless tops. Now, here is my regimen:
  • I wear sleeveless tops most of the time to avoid friction. I realized that the sleeves from my shirts actually aids with the discoloration so I started to avoid that.
  • I use whitening soap and focused on the areas that need intense lightening.  I’m using Kojie-san kojic acid soap. I leave it on for a minute or more. I also like Extract, Venus and Mars Lulur Emu Soap and Cyleina Black Pearl Soap.
  • I ditched shaving and switched to sugar waxing/sugaring  because shaving irritates the skin that causes darkening. I use Strip It sugar wax, its all natural and it also contains calamansi which also aids in lightening dark spots. It only adheres tightly to the hairs and not the skin so its not really painful. It also exfoliates my skin at the same time as it also strip off the dead skin cells.
  • I changed my deodorant. I use Dove Whitening Unscented deodorant. I chose dove Because it has moisturizer. Remember dry skin is damaged skin. And I use unscented because I don’t like my deo to overpower my cologne plus I found out that the chemicals used for the scent may cause irritation and discoloration. Sometimes I just use alum (tawas), its cheap, safe  and effective.
  • Sometimes, when I don’t have plans to go out, I don’t apply any deodorant at all. Good thing I don’t have body odor and my underarms isn’t really sweaty.
  • I rub calamansi juice in my underarms every night before I sleep and I just wash it off in the morning when I take a bath.
  • I exfoliate ones or twice a week using Abonne Spa Milk salt. Exfoliating is important because it sloughs off dead skin cells.

This worked for me and I hope this will work for you too. Just do this religiously and one day you will wake up realizing you have reached your goal already.
